My name is Katie Hurley and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), EMDR Counselor, and a Nationally Certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapist (TF-CBT). I have been practicing in the St. Louis Area since 2007. I have experience and provided treatment several different levels of care and with a variety of populations. As a clinician, I am specialize in helping clients who struggle with symptoms related to trauma, depression, low self worth, anxiety, shame, and family conflict. I am trained to work with many populations, including children (8 years and older), adolescents, and adults. In addition to being a certified TF-CBT and EMDR therapist, I utilize many other treatment modalities including: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, (PET), Exposure Response Prevention Therapy (ERT), Play Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy.
I utilize a direct and honest approach with my clients and their family members/support network. It is encouraged that family members/support network become involved and an active participant in therapy, to assist clients with processing unresolved struggles, increase effective communication, create an environment of empathetic understanding, and developing healthy coping skills. Far too often, it is believed that it is only the client that needs "changing". My success stories continue to be when family members/support networks become involved in the treatment process, and assist the client with developing shame resilience, empathy, compassion, and understanding to overcome their struggles.
